New Fire Marshal Draft Proposal for Solar in California
I read the New Fire Marshal Draft Proposal for California last night. Some take aways. On residential construction, there will be a 3 ft. exclusion zone on the sides of the array and a 3 ft. exclusion zone at the peak of the roof.
Well, that's a great piece of news.
I see roofs that measure 12 ft to 13 ft all the time. Most solar modules are 62 inches tall. 2 rows of these modules equals 124 inches or 10.33 ft.
If the roof is 12 ft. from eve to peak, then, 12 ft. -10.33 = 1.67 ft. Ooops. Two rows used to fit, but now, this homeowner will have to cut the size of his modest solar array in half.
Many years ago I read an article, "100 ways to kill a project". Federal, State and local regulators continually come up with new requirements which threaten the move to green energy and energy independence.
Now, the California Fire Marshal has taken one of the final steps to kill the Residential Solar market in California. Here is a link to the whole Draft Proposal.
Draft Fire Marshal Plan for California
Unbelievable.
